Yogurt Filling Machine
Yogurt filling machines are very fast moving. They combine an in-feed of empty cups with a precise dose of dairy filling. If the cups tip or are missing, the machine will still dose creating waste, lost production and additional cleaning. Cylinders were installed to divert the dosing action when a cup was not sensed.
This worked well until the machine speed increased making the pneumatics too slow. DRM was contracted to work with a food grade servo manufacturer to provide a complete solution. The existing PLC was upgraded with a servo motion module to allow a more precise and speedy diverter positioning. A high speed camera was used to monitor the diverter action and prove out concept prior to installation.
Case Palletizing
DRM developed a palletizing solution to palletize boxed cases of product. Previously, operators hand stacked these boxes for shipment. The preferred stacking method was a non-typical solution, in that the cases were not dimensioned to make a smooth, squared skid.
DRM customized a FANUC robot running PalletTool software to first allow, and then manage this arrangement. A unique gripper system was developed to vacuum grasp boxes with or without glued flaps, include redundant vacuum generators and has swing-out arms for pallet de-stacking and placement. Conveyors were incorporated to move completed cases to fork truck pickup areas. All this motion was housed with the fenced robot cell for operator safety. |
